Hayward Opens Up About Celtics Departure

Hornets Forward Reflects on Boston Exit

Gordon Hayward has shared his reasons for leaving the Boston Celtics, stating that he felt it was time for a change after four seasons with the team.

Hayward, who joined the Celtics as a free agent in 2017, said he made the decision to leave after the team's disappointing end to the 2020-21 season. The Celtics were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Brooklyn Nets.

Hayward signed a four-year, $120 million deal with the Hornets this offseason. He says he's excited about the opportunity to play for a new team and in a new city.

"I'm just really excited to get a fresh start," Hayward said. "I think it's the best thing for me and my family."

Hayward's departure from the Celtics was a surprise to many, as he was thought to be a key part of the team's future. However, Hayward says he made the decision in the best interests of his career.

"I'm still 31 years old. I've got a lot of basketball left in me," Hayward said. "I'm excited to see what the future holds."
