Manchester City take control of Champions League tie with emphatic win over Bayern Munich

Pep Guardiola's side take control in quarter-finals

Manchester City 3-0 Bayern Munich

Manchester City took total control of their Champions League quarter-final tie with an emphatic 3-0 first-leg win over Bayern Munich at the Etihad Stadium. The Premier League champions were in scintillating form as they dominated the German giants from start to finish. Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a stunning strike from outside the box, before Phil Foden doubled the lead just before half-time. Bernardo Silva added a third in the second half to put City firmly in control of the tie ahead of the second leg in Munich next week. Bayern Munich, who were without the suspended Alphonso Davies and Leon Goretzka, were second best throughout and rarely threatened the City goal. The result leaves them with a mountain to climb in the second leg if they are to progress to the semi-finals. City, on the other hand, will be confident of finishing the job off in Germany and reaching the last four of the competition for the second time in three seasons.
